Stream Of Unconsciousness

This is a very short one:

I’m trying something new…..ie: not being too precious about the new release and not treating it as ‘the big secret’. So, you can preview the full album, nearly two weeks before its release, y’know to check it out. After 1st Feb, you can own it if you like it. It’s a bit different from ‘El Lissitzky’ in that it’s a tad more ‘organic’ and a bit noisier. So, there you are and here it is:

Tank Yew

Hello electro-beings. I’m trying to unwind my head from a manic period of work by listening to Kraftwerk’s ‘Tanzmusik’. It is, indeed, bloody lovely: driving, melodic, whimsical, ethereal…

Anyway, it dawned on me that it was only just over a week since I released ‘El Lissitzky’, my 6th album (or, to be more correct, my twelfth album….but one I haven’t deleted!). It seems like it’s always been around, not just sitting on Bandcamp for nine days. Anyway, in those nine days, people have been downloading, tweeting, sharing, blogging about and reviewing it; just as I’d hoped. So, thank you loads, people. You are the glue that holds this independent/DIY music thing together.

I’d also like to thank a few broadcasters who have supported the music and, particularly, played tracks off the album on their shows. These include Mark Ryan at Amazing Radio and Pete Jackson at Dandelion Radio…..both stations championing new, emerging music and I thoroughly recommend them.

Also, whoever has put my music on torrent sites or free download sites……thanks. My music seems to be cropping-up in all sorts of places.

So, what’s next? Well, never one to sit about on my arse, I’ve been busy working on music for my renewed collaboration with Marie Craven, known as Cwtch. At the risk of alerting the self-congratulation police, I am really liking the sound of the new track in progress. Well, I would wouldn’t I? That’s why I make music….to hear music I actually like!!!

The new Cwtch stuff will be available whenever it’s ‘finished’. Early days yet….

Love and Cheetos to you all…..

February Mailout – ‘Crash St’ Imminent

Hello again. This is just a reminder to tell you that my new album ‘Crash St’ is available from Thursday 1st March (ie. next Thursday) at http://dementio13.com . I’m really pleased with it and hope you can share in the music.

It’s a pay-what-you-want download, with no minimum price, so you could have it for free. All I ask is that, if you decide to download it and like it, please share links on Twitter and/or Facebook; your recommendations help it reach a wider audience.

Bloggers/DJs have been very complimentary in their reviews:

“…electronic, programmed machine music, bursting at the seams with humanity and soul, imprinted with the traces of its creator…….Dementio13 has mastered the art of creating human music, organic music that breathes, while capitalising on the power and impact of the machine.” (Jan 26, 2012)

“…his forthcoming Crash St album reveals him to be still moving forward in invigorating and never predictable directions, his exploratory electronica more varied in texture and mood than pretty much any of his contemporaries.” (Jan 31 2012)

Also, there’s a free album of my older stuff over at http://cutmatrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/alt-delete, so help yourself. You don’t even need to join a mailing list to download….no strings.

CRASH ST. PREVIEW:

Broadcasts Incoming – A Synopsis

Blimey, Winter 2012 is becoming a very busy time. Dandelion Radio are being their usual actively supportive selves (especially DJs Mark Whitby and Pete Jackson). In January (ie: now!), Mark is playing my new track ‘NMAB’ on his monthly show. In February, I’m recording a live session for Mark’s show also. In March, I’m appearing in a live session for Pete. Of course, March 1st also sees the release of new album ‘Crash St.’

Pinklogik is releasing an album of remixes of her track “Playing With Sticks” in the next month or so. I’m on there (track 12) with a neo-orchestral remix of her rather cool track.

Beep….transmission ended

No Label, No Scene….

Hello again. Hope you all had a jolly nice Christmas and are gearing up for the New Year. So, here I sit with a glass of mulled wine in the hand and Prefuse73 on the ipod dreaming of aural spires. Whatever that means.

I’ve been ruminating heavily…..on the subject of what form my next release should take. As always, there’s a bit of a concept behind the new album, a clear vision. But there isn’t as clear a vision about what media it should take the form of.

I recently had a (very flattering and appreciated) suggestion that I should submit ‘The Hobbyist’ for serious consideration for release by a fairly hefty and cool netlabel. Now, I’ve been stung by this before, letting the flattery and ease of submitting the distribution of an album take over the my need to be totally independent. So, I’m eschewing this route. That’s not to say I don’t appreciate it……it’s just not right for me at the moment.

I should make it clear to all and sundry that I’m not concerned with making money from my releases. That’s why my music is free/pay what you want. Neither am I craving any form of fame or notoriety. Maybe I should be; but I’ve gotta admit that I have a total lack of ambition in these matters. Sure, if something came along, I’d possibly accept it (given the right circumstances), but seriously, it’s about getting the music out there and heard, even if only by 50 people. I really appreciate it when folks download my music, I’m ecstatic if they pay for it, as I tend to believe that the music isn’t really worth people’s hard-earned cash. But if people are voluntarily paying for it, I take this as the ultimate compliment. Every single download means so much.

I’m reading a lot of blog posts, etc from people stating that sharing is the way to build an audience and I’ve always agreed with that. However, the means of sharing is not fixed. As I’ve noted, Twitter and Facebook are now not an option for me as I’m depriving myself of these media as a little experiment (it’s not the people that are the problem, it’s that I am getting disillusioned with the corporate nature of these sites and how much time I was spending on them, plus I found I was tweeting absolute bollocks most of the time!). My main form of communication is now through this blog, email and the wonderful Soundcloud. Also, in the spirit of sharing, I’ve enabled all my albums to be downloadable for free on Last.fm. If you’re short of cash, or just want to listen before spending time downloading hi-res versions, 128kbps MP3s are available on Last.fm. This will probably be the case with the new album too. It may be ready to release earlier than I thought, also.

On a slightly different tack….Cardiff/South Wales has a burgeoning and lively independent scene championed by the likes of Huw Stephens, Adam Walton and John Rostron. Artists such as Alone, Sweet Baboo, The School, Pulco and Jewellers are making great inroads into independent territory and gaining a decent following on the back of some cool releases and live performances. All are worth checking out, by the way.

I, on the other hand, am not planning to play live….not in the flesh anyway (I’ve got two live sessions soon to be aired on Dandelion Radio in 2012). My promotional methods are constantly changing but are mainly limited (or ‘developing’, to look on it positively). I’m a hermit. I’m not at all fashionable. My music is sometimes quite conventional but not populist, even to left-field musos. So, I think I’m not part of any scene as such. This is a good thing, you understand; but it places me on the fringe of something which is already on the fringe. This is not a complaint….it’s almost a badge of honour actually! But it means my music will not be heard by a large mass. That’s something which occasionally I regret, but is purely of my making, so no problem.

Anyway, the new album might be ready for February (end of).

That is all.

Peace out, etc, etc.

Next Few Months…

Hello. I’m just posting a little reminder for some upcoming events I’ve got going on. All free stuff, so I’m hoping you can share in the festivities…

In December, I’ve got a free little EP out (from 1st Dec at Dementio13.com). It contains three remixes of the track “So”, by Pinklogik, Toaster and Boffly. They’re all good and give a new twist on my original track.

Over on Dandelion Radio, in December, Pete Jackson will be playing an exclusive new track on his show. ‘Snow Star’ is an icey digital foray into neo-techno…somewhere I don’t go very often. It’s an early version and has changed a bit since.

February sees my first live mix of the year, for Mark Whitby, on Dandelion Radio.

Then, in April, I’ll be playing on Pete Jackson’s show too!

In May, the two mixes will be available for free download on CutMat Recordings’ Bandcamp site.

Then, finally, the new album will be available in June. So, 2012 will get off to a busy start! Just how I like it….bring it on.

Some new music and some news…

After some inactivity, musically, due to an exotic mixture of work and back pain, I’ve been busy working on some early mixes of some new music. I’m hoping to get an album together for a Summer release in 2012, so there’s plenty of time to evaluate, alter and remix.

There are more things in the pipeline also: a new exclusive track for Pete Jackson’s December show on Dandelion Radio. And then, in February, a live session for Mark Whitby’s show on Dandelion and then another one for Pete Jackson later in the spring! I am so grateful for the opportunities that the folks at Dandelion Radio have given me. If you’re not familiar with the station, please do take a listen; their remit is to continue the spirit of John Peel through their broadcasts, playing obscure and independent music by ‘signed’ and DIY artists. You can make some great discoveries on there. They’re an internet only station and they rotate/repeat their shows throughout each month. Check this page for schedules. They also have an app for a well-known phone so you can listen wherever you are.

Also, in December, I’ll be releasing a free ep of remixes of my track ‘So’ by Pinklogik, Boffly and Toaster. They’re great and it’s my little Christmas present to anyone who’s interested!

October is My Month of Good Stuff

Well, besides being the month of me dear ol’ Mum’s birthday; October is a special month this year, as it seems several Dementio13 projects come to fruition.

Firstly: Greg Healey’s new show on Dandelion Radio (the ace netstation devoted to the memory and spirit of John Peel) is now live. I’ve done a live session for this month’s playlist (as I’ve repeatedly bogged here!). Anyway, I thought I’d provide a handy cut-out-&-keep schedule for his show:

OCTOBER 1st – 3am
                2nd – 1am
                3rd – 9pm
                4th – 7pm
                5th – 5pm
                6th – 3pm
                7th – 1pm
                8th – 11am
                9th – 9am
                10th – 7am
                11th – 5am

The cycle then repeats from Oct 12th until 30th

On the 31st, which is the last run of the show before the November schedule starts, Greg’s show is on at 8am. All times are BST.

Then, don’t forget the release of the Doves cover-version album, “Echoes In The Alleyway” on 18th October. My version of ‘Firesuite’ opens the 25 track album.

There’s other stuff in the pipeline too; more of which at a later date….

Adios!
